We lead and support research projects that generate knowledge with the people most affected by insecurity, not just about them. Working alongside communities and local and international partners, we explore what shapes safety and wellbeing in different contexts, always starting from people's own voices, knowledge and lived experience.
This work feeds into practice by helping identify what strengthens people's capacities to prevent, face and protect themselves from the risks they encounter, while building a more human picture of security.

Security4Peace supports this project led by LSE's Department of Geography and Environment and Universidad de Antioquia, working with local organisations and youth collectives in Medellín and Cape Town. We have backed young people's critical engagement in conversations on security, using a human security lens and a systemic approach to understand the complex challenges they face, and supported initiatives young people themselves have proposed to make their voices heard in their communities.
